The original Maternity Movements Bracelet was developed by Louise Macleod back in 2016 when she was pregnant with her first child, she wanted to find an easy way to monitor her sons movements in the womb. Using her love of crafting, Louise created a beaded bracelet with a loop that allowed her to count each time she felt a movement.
Around eighteen months after having her son Louise started a new role as the NHS Maternity Voices Development Co-ordinator for Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin. A great idea soon became a way to help local pregnant women when Louise was involved in a local campaign to raise awareness of the importance of being aware of your baby’s movement in the womb. Supported by the Local Maternity System for Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin and Davidov London Ltd, experts in crafting beautiful, handmade pieces of jewellery, the first samples were made.
Funded by the Local Maternity System, 1000 prototype bracelets was given to expectant mums under the local NHS trusts care in August 2019 as a trial. With overwhelmingly positive feedback and glowing reviews, a few short months later the bracelet was given the go ahead to be developed further to enable more women to benefit.
In October 2019, after some final tweaks to the design, The Aska Maternity Movement Bracelet was born. It is the only one of its kind to have been developed alongside an NHS Organisation.
